What About Catholic Songs?
by Deal W. Hudson

Todd, here is a major confession: I have been a Catholic since 1984, and I still have greater affection for the hymnody of my evangelical past than my Catholic present.

Why? It's just better music, in my opinion. The best of the Catholic tunes are either derived directly from a chant tune, such as "Ubi Caritas" or they have a kitschy Manilow-type appeal such as "Gift of Finest Wheat."

As I have told Zoe numerous times, the entire Steubenville "praise and worship" catalogue contains no appeal, although the enthusiasm of those who sing it certainly do.

Just give me a chance to sing "Old Rugged Cross" and my lungs fill with air.
