VIDEO: Archbishop Chaput on the issues Posted on November 03, 2008, 9:29 AM | Margaret Cabaniss |
In the inaugural episode of AMP News, the American Papist blog's week-in-review news report, Thomas Peters sat down with Archbishop Charles Chaput to discuss Catholic voting and faithful citizenship.
We've talked at length here about Chaput's book and various statements on Catholics in political life over the past few months, but seeing him articulate his positions in person, rather than on the page, is quite impressive. I was particularly struck by his calm and charitable demeanor, his insistence that the truth isn't partisan, and his words of encouragement to laypeople and youth, who he says are the real agents of change in society.
He also comments on other hot-button issues, including the pitch to make Obama out as a pro-life candidate, the USCCB's "Faithful Citizenship" document, the separation of Church and State, and much more -- all of it must-viewing in the lead-up to tomorrow's election.
